An international conference on Next Generation Business Models will be held at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, on Friday 2 October 2015. The conference will be hosted by the International Business School in corporation with the foundation Our Common Future 2.0 and Samenwerkingsverband Noord Nederland (SNN).

The conference will focus its attention on the following three streams:

  1. Displaying  what next generation business models may look like based on new value and economic propositions, such as the sharing economy, the circular economy and the we-economy. Successful entrepreneurs will present their business models and explain why, what and how.
  2. Showing examples of how cooperation and collaborations between universities and businesses generate new business models.
  3. Examples of inter-business cooperation and collaboration (within Europe) and the support businesses can expect from the government in this respect.

Why this conference?

Modern economies are facing some major challenges. Existing business models no longer provide answers to the relevant questions asked today. The influence of the internet is increasing tremendously. Natural resources are being depleted at a rapid pace. Social inequality is widening the gap between ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ globally, nationally and regionally. The institutional environment is changing, implying that the roles of customers, consumers and other stakeholders are changing as well. This also impacts upon the responsibilities of companies of all sizes. To be able to adequately respond to all developments effectively and successfully,  business, citizens, researchers and government organisations must join forces.

Small, medium, large and multinational companies are searching for business models that contribute to solutions to societal issues. These business models are aiming at creating multiple value creation, that is creating social, environmental and economic value intentionally and simultaneously.
