Business Generator Groningen and the UMCG Innovation Center are organizing the event Science with Impact; Collaborate with Industry to Advance and Valorize your Research! The event is aimed at researchers from the UG and the UMCG who want to learn more about how to further develop their research into an innovative product by partnering with the industry, and will be held at DOT Groningen on 19 March.

The reason for organizing the event is that an increasing group of researchers is taking their research results to the market and society, either by collaborating with the industry through licensing, or by engaging in entrepreneurship themselves by founding a start-up.

Hans Biemans, Vice President of the Board of the University of Groningen: ‘The academic knowledge of universities and the ability of businesses to valorize that innovative knowledge for society has proven to be a winning combination. But working together with the industry also poses challenges to academics, because how exactly does this collaboration work? And how do you retain your academic freedom while at the same time guarding your academic integrity? As far as I’m concerned, these are valid questions that we must all continue to address. We do, however, see more and more examples of researchers who develop their research results into an innovative product thereby making a fundamental contribution to solving societal issues in the field of health, energy, circularity, and digitization. In my opinion, these examples serve as an inspiration for academia to make an increasing impact on society.’
